COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS
Overview
A hands-on, collaborative weaving group guided by a project of mutual interest, using a recent Handwoven magazine. When a suitable project isn’t available in a recent issue, we will explore previous years or a Weaver’s Craft. Unsuitable would be too many shafts, too specific, too narrow an interest or simply unappealing. The intent of this group is to boost confidence and capability through working together, in a supportive, shared studio environment while having fun. We learn by working side by side, helping each other over hurdles, and developing skills through practice rather than instruction alone. Participation is open to all guild members. All experience levels are welcome, but this is not a beginner instruction class; rather, it is a space to grow and learn together. Shared responsibility is central to the success of each project. Group members will work together on warping, threading, sleying the reed, tying on, winding on, weaving support, and finishing tasks. These responsibilities are distributed through sign-up to ensure fairness and broaden learning opportunities. Everyone contributes to moving the project forward from start to finish. Projects will typically focus on tea towels to keep materials accessible and cost-effective. Group members will be responsible for paying approximately $8-10 per towel. All materials will be provided unless otherwise indicated. The group operates on the principles that everyone is equal, there are no right or wrong approaches, and all questions are welcome. The emphasis is on clarity, experimentation, and learning in a collaborative setting. Above all, this is a space to share skills, support one another, and enjoy the process of weaving together.
