Heritage Weavers and Spinners Guild of Calgary (HWSG) is dedicated to promoting the art of weaving, spinning, felting, and dyeing in the community. We participate in a wide range of events that highlight the artistry and craftsmanship of these traditional skills.

  • The Sheep to Shawl competition offers a platform for both novice and experienced weavers and spinners to showcase their talents.

  • Demonstrations are a key part of our outreach, allowing the public to witness the intricate processes involved in creating handwoven and handspun pieces. These live sessions provide an educational experience, fostering a deeper appreciation for the craft.

  • Exhibits feature stunning collections of woven and spun items, celebrating the creativity and dedication of our members.

Through these events, HWSG of Calgary aims to inspire and engage the community, nurturing a love for the timeless arts of weaving and spinning.

We acknowledge that the land we gather on, Mohkinsstsis, is the ancestral territory of the Siksikaitsitapi — the Blackfoot people — comprising the Siksika, Kainai and Piikani Nations, as well as Treaty 7 signatories, the Tsuut’ina Nation, and the Îyârhe Nakoda Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney First Nations. Today this land is home to the Metis of Region 3 as well as many First Nations and Inuit peoples from across Turtle Island. We acknowledge that there has been art, music, dance, storytelling and ceremony on this land since time immemorial and it is in the spirit of this land and its people that we do our work.
