What inspires your work right now? or What influences the colours or textures you choose?
Currently, I’m exploring the relationship between mathematics and weaving. I often use the Fibonacci sequence to design patterns and incorporate the golden ratio into my work. More recently, I’ve been experimenting with quadratic equations to develop new designs. The colours I choose are usually inspired by my surroundings—seasonal changes, elements of nature, or sometimes simply whatever materials I have on hand.
What’s something special about the item(s) that will be available at the sale?
Both my teatowels and cards are experimentations of colour combinations and using what I have on hand. I rarely buy yarns especially for a project, I prefer to get creative with the yarns around me.
What's the biggest weaving has taught you?
Haha, Patience! And I have made lots of friends in the fibre community.
What's your favourite fibre (or technique) to work with and why?
I love any natural fibre, I have no favorites.
Do you plan your projects or work intuitively?
I plan my projects, but that does not mean that I follow through with my plan. I am easily sidetracked and most of the time my projects and up quite different than the original plan.
What do you love most about being part of the guild?
The guild provides so much inspiration, so many talented members! Every time we get together there is something that inspires me and you realize there is so much more to learn.
What do you enjoy most about sharing your work with others?
The conversations and the exchange of ideas. When you plan and make a piece, you have been staring at it for a very long time. Others see the piece for the first time and can open your eyes to elements you did not notice before, good and bad!
Studio soundtrack: silence, music, or podcasts?
Music, classical or oldies. Sometimes books on audible.
Messy maker or tidy table?
Oh, very messy! I cannot create in a tidy studio.
One project at a time or multiple on the go?
Always more projects on the go, and even more in my head.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in fibre arts?
-
Dive in, don’t be afraid to try new things
-
You learn so much from your mistakes
-
Be part of a guild or other group, there is where you learn the most
What’s one thing you wish more people understood about handmade textiles?
I would say, just use them and enjoy them!
